Clothing and equipment for winter visits
Requirements will vary from the different activities.

Daytrips with scooter:
Each guest will be given a complete set of outer clothing. This includes the following;

  • warm scooter dress
  • warm boots for arctic conditions
  • gloves, a cap covering face
  •  helmet, ski goggles
  • Equipment the guest must bring:

  • warm socks (preferably several pairs)
  • wool underwear
  • trousers
  • 1-2 warm pullovers
  • preferably a pair of thin inner gloves in wool.
  • Overnight trips to the Boat in the Ice:

Same as above, but in addition:

  • 1 pair of shoes to wear indoors or slippers
  • necessary toiletries
  • one change of clothes for the evening on board
  • This can be packed in a rucksack that will be strapped on the back of the scooter.

    Daytrip with dog sleigh:

Same equipment as needed for the day trip with the scooter.

Overnight trips with dogs to the Boat in the Ice:

Riding with the dogs can be very different from time to time. Some days, when the snow conditions are difficult, helping the dogs may be necessary, especially when it is warm. Other days the conditions are better and the weather is cold. Then it is particularly important to bring enough warm clothes. The list of necessary equipment for trips with the dog sleigh is essentially the same as for the scooter trip. However, one should keep in mind that one has the possibility to regulate the temperature with several layers of clothing.

    Ski trips:

The guest must provide ski equipment and appropriate clothing for himself. You will need steel-edged mountain skis wherever you travel on Svalbard. It is very important to dress in a manner that allows you to effectively control regulate the temperature. While skiing you will get warm and one should dress lightly so as to keep from excessive perspiration, but still have clothes available to keep from freezing as soon as one stops. It is important to have at least one change of clothes, and preferably an extra pullover or down jacket. Several pairs of dry and warm socks may also be crucial for an enjoyable camping trip.

    Other useful equipment:

Camera, binoculars, heating bag, and, if needed, personal medicine and, for women, necessary hygienic articles.
