At Basecamp Spitsbergen we decided that our guests should never have to doubt that they are on Svalbard. We have simply done as the old trappers did; using what we had and what we could get from nature.

You will find Basecamp Spitsbergen in central Longyearbyen.
We can guarantee the most spectacular hotel on Svalbard, with interiors of drift wood, planks from the Russian settlement in Barentsburg, slate, corrugated iron, and sealskins. You get the feeling of wandering in a trapper’s cabin rather than a hotel. The standard is high, and we have comfortable beds and warm bathrooms in all our rooms.

A powerful and authentic experience

Breakfast is served at the timber long table in the Travellers Club. We have a separate sauna compartment with a view of the city, and you can sit in the Cognac Loft-Room watching the magnificent Svalbard light through the glass ceiling.
In surroundings that ooze of proud trapping traditions, you will get a powerful and authentic experience and fantastic stories to tell family or friends stranded at home.

Coffeehouse and gourmet restaurant

Basecamp Spitsbergen is a bed and breakfast so that you are free to enjoy the other meals of the day in the many quality restaurants and coffeehouses in the city. Here you will find everything from coffeehouses with Italian dishes to gourmet meals at Huset. You will find that the pub, which is in the same building and with the same atmosphere as the hotel, is a good place to eat.

Quality and comfort

The hotel has 15 rooms with altogether 37 beds.

Most rooms have 3 beds, 3 of the rooms have a double bed and a bunk bed, 4 of the rooms have 2 single beds, and the suite has 2 bedrooms with 2 beds in each.
There is also one room with only one bed.
The rooms are not standardised except for quality and comfort. The hotel is located in the centre of Longyearbyen within walking distance to the treats of the city.

The bus from the airport stops just outside the hotel and corresponds with all arrivals and departures from the airport.
