From north to south there are many interesting and worthwhile places to discover. Due to the winds a fixed timetable is hard to set. There are two monsoons, Kuzi, which is the south east monsoon and goes from May to October. The weather is usually cooler, rainy and the seas are wild. Average temperatures between 28 to 32 C. The north east monsoon, Kaskazi, is from November to April. The weather is then usaually hot with calm seas. Average tempratures from between 30 to 35 C.

The rarely visited Kiunga Marine National Reserve is an untouched and pristine area tucked away just south of the Somalian border. It covers an area of 250 sq kilometers and consists of more than 55 islands. It hosts five species of sea turtles, more than ten different dolphins, and one of the world’s largest Roseate tern nesting populations. It is also here that the mysterious Dugong, seacow, occasionally has been seen. In this piece of paradise, World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) operates a field station with a species protection programme on sea turtles. Join the turtle night patrols further north in the archipelago and go scouting for nesting or hatching turtles. Take a professionally guided underwater safari, snorkeling the coral reef in the Kiwaiyu bay and learn about the coral reef environment and its inhabitants. Stunningly beautiful!  Dinner and overnight at WWF guest bandas, beautifully situated in the sand dunes overlooking Kiwaiyu bay.

Mokokoni village is just south from the WWF camp and is an interesting  experience to visit. Here you meet the local Bajuni people, a small ethnic group living mainly in the northern parts of the Lamu archipelago and on the nearby mainland. Meet the “Solar women", cooking meals on solar energy and with recycled tetrapaks and plastics. Enjoy a cup of  solar tea, tasty sweet cinnamon spiced tea while listening to the mamas stories. They will also tell you about the Flip Flop Arts project - a handicraft initiative recycling flipflop waste and turning it into crafts.

Make a stop at Pate Island and Kizingitini village, situated on the north eastern part of the island. This small town has the most active dhow wharf in the archipelago. Chat with the local handicraft men and learn the secrets ofthe traditonal swahili dhow constructions.

Just south of Kiwaiyu Island is Ndau Island, with some of the most pristine beaches in the whole archipelago. Anchor up, relax in the white soft coral sand as the sun sets. Enjoy a magic evening far away from civilisation, under the million stars of the southern hemisphere and simply be...
