Our Awards
The Responsible Tourism Award for 2005 has been awarded to Basecamp Masai Mara in the category Best protected Park/Area.
Basecamp Masai Mara won this award not only for it’s contribution to conservation and local communities, but in particular for the Masai Arts and Crafts project empowering disadvantaged local Masai women to produce and sell traditional designs and materials.  Tourism in protected areas is regarded as one of the foremost award categories and Basecamp Masai Mara was the winner of this particular category for it’s pilot project “Sustainable Development through Community Based Tourism”.    The award was personally collected at World Travel Market by Moses Saiyialel, a Masai.

ESOK, the Eco Tourism Society of Kenya has awarded the Eco Warrior Award for 2005 to Basecamp Masai Mara.
ESOK works to bring tourism, conservation and communities together. Annually ESOK identifies outstanding achievements within eco-tourism in Kenya and Basecamp Masai Mara had already gained Bronze certification in 2004.  However in 2005 Basecamp Masai Mara achieved the highest ever score in Kenya and was awarded Gold certification and as a consequence, was also awarded the Eco-Warrior Award.
