3 Days Mushing to the Ship
Here we offer a programme where you can experience mushing your own dog sleigh team across a landscape of snow, glaciers, fantastic mountain shapes and a magical light. You get the possibility to spend 2 nights in our comfortable ship frozen into the ice. To look after, feed and become the best friends with ”your own” friendly Alaskan huskies and last, but not least, you get the chance to forget about the rest of the world for a few days!

During the days we will cross beautiful glaciers, valleys and plains. After lunch in the open, we head for “Noorderlicht” our ship that is frozen into the pretty Temple Fjord. The night at the ship is special. This is like coming to a different world. A ship with all facilities including warm showers on board, left alone in the arctic wilderness.

”Noorderlicht” has 10 comfortable cabins, each with 2 beds and there is good facilities onboard.  We spend the night in our warm cabins, after a nice supper in the restaurant. The bar is open until midnight.

Price per person: Nok 11 900 weekdays. Nok 12 900 weekends

The price does not include: Airfare to/from Longyearbyen, accommodation at Basecamp Spitsbergen and alcoholic beverages.

The choice of route will at all times be determined by the guide based on the weather.

Remember! It is prohibited to go off the ship without armed guide! 
      

Program:

Day 1, 1000 AM

Meeting at Basecamp Spitsbergen for  briefing and instructions from the guide. By bus you are brought to the dog yard where the dog sledge trip starts. At the dog yard, 70 happy Alaskan Huskys are waiting for us! The guide will give a short lesson in how to train the dogs. Every participants are responsible for their own dogs, and must take part in work tasks on the way.  Then we head off in the white, open landscape, and arrive our ship ”Noorderlicth” after a long day with dog sledging. Lunch will be served out in the field.  3-courses dinner will be served onboard the ship.

Day 2:

Breakfast for animals and people before preparations are made for a new fairy-tale day with the dogs. The complete silence is only broken by the panting of the dogs and the scraping of the sled runners against the snow. Dogsled mushing on Svalbard is an experience that touches your soul. Lunch will be served out in the field, and we return to the ship late afternoon for a good dinner.

Day 3:            

The last day out in the field and we get up early so we are able to make the most out of the day! Late in the afternoon we reach the civilisation again and arrive in Longyearbyen in time for a hot sauna and perhaps some cold drinks.

Equipment list:  

We recommend to bring following equipment: Rucksack for personal equipment, (rest of the baggage will be stored in Longyearbyen),  warm, windproof jacket and trousers, warm windproof cap, 2 pair of finger gloves in wool, 1 pair of windproof gloves, 1 pair of long woolen underwear, warm woolen sweater, woolen or fleece trouser, 2-3 pair woolen socks, 1 pair ordinary clothes and shoes to use onboard the ship,  toiletries/wash bag, sunglasses, binoculars, and camera. Due to limited space on the dog sledges, we recommend to only bring with you the most necessary in the field.  Included in the price is snowmobile- suit, shoes, gloves, balaclava and cap.
