The ESOK Eco-rating Scheme can be defined as a systematic approach for verifying a tourism organisations performance when evaluated against an agreed suite of criteria (environmental/social/cultural).
Here follows an extract from ESOK’s evaluation of the camp: “Basecamp received special commendations from the evaluation committee for exemplary performance in all key areas targeted by the scheme nameley, environmental management, community linkages and economic criteria. Long term linkages with the local community, good practice in environment management, collaborations with diverse institutions and documentaion of practices were all applauded. The overall scores attained by the camp were the highest recorded so far".
