A camping safari, taking you south through the Great Rift Valley, from the lush slopes of Mount Kenya, experience the drylands of Samburu, enjoy Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria with its beautiful birdlife and reach your final destination with walking safari adventures at Dorobo Bushcamp in the Masai Mara.


Day 1
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Transfer to Basecamp Travel office for breakfast. Depart for Mount Kenya, arrive at the camping site for lunch. Spend afternoon walking the lush and green slopes of Mount Kenya. Dinner & overnight camping Mount Kenya.

Day 2
Breakfast, early departure to the more dry areas north of Mount Kenya and reach Samburu National Park. Arrive to camping site inside the park around lunch time. Afternoon game drive, look for the Grevy zebra, the Reticulated giraffe, the Gerenuk and the Oryx – all unique to the Samburu National Park. Return to camp before sunset. Dinner & overnight camping Samburu.

Day 3
Spend another day in the Samburu Reserve, either with early morning / afternoon game drives or enjoy a full day out with picknic lunch – your choice! Dinner & overnight camping Samburu.

Day 4
Breakfast and early start, drive through the impressive landscape of the drylands of the North West Samburu areas and head for Lake Baringo – a fresh water lake. Crocodiles and hippos in abundance, but the main attraction of Lake Baringo is the spectacular birdlife. People come from all over the world to birdwatch here.
Dinner & overnight camping Lake Baringo.

Day 5
Spend a full day visiting not only Lake Baringo but also the totally different Lake Bogoria – a shallow soda lake with hot springs and geysers. If you are lucky you might get to see the Greater Kudu. Return to camp before sunset, dinner & overnight camping Lake Baringo.

Day 6
Early breakfast and departure from Lake Baringo and head for Malewa River Camp Site. Possibility for walking safari in the Malewa conservancy or water rafting on Malewa River – depending on season. Dinner & overnight camping Malewa.

Day 7
Depart after breakfast for Dorobo bushcamp, Masai Mara. Arrive for lunch at the preset bushcamp in the wild savannah. Enjoy an afternoon walking safari with specially trained Maasai guides, return to Dorobo bushcamp before sunset, relax by the campfire, dinner & overnight Dorobo bushcamp.

Day 8
Morning tea or coffee, early morning walk, watch the savannah waking up, return to camp for a full breakfast in the bush. Relax or explore the surroundings of  the camp. Lunch and afternoon walk, sundowner on top of Leopard Hill, dinner & overnight Dorobo bushcamp

Day 9
Breakfast and departure for Nairobi. Game drives on route through the reserve. Panoramic views when crossing the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in Nairobi late afternoon for connecting flights or overnight.

Special info:
Small camping tents used, mattresses & extra blankets provided for Most camp sites have toilets and washing facilities. Private cook.

  • Payments:
    most lodges take US dollars, Kenyan or Tanzanian shillings or cards. For your own personal shopen good to have the local currency though.

    Basecamp take Ksh, Us dollars, travellers’s cheques, VISA and MasterCard (NB! 6% additon on credit cards). We advice you to bring Kenyan shillings for shopping & tipping etc.

    Walking safari:
    minimum 18 years of age or 15 of age when accompanied by parents

    Talek school & The Maasai Arts & Crafts not open on Saturdays and Sundays, check with reception if need to change programme!
