Basecamp guide training is different and geared towards professional tourism operations.
Knowledge of wildlife, conservation tourism, flora and fauna form the basis of the training but equally important is the focus on the aspect of how to create an intimate and open atmosphere where interaction between different people naturally can take place.
Professional Safari Guide Association
The training includes selfstudies, tutoring, field studies, workshops and participation in external courses organised by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA). All guides at Basecamp are trained as walking safari guides providing safe and professional trekks in wilderness areas and trained as guides on sustainable tourism in practise providing educational campwalks and visits to Basecamp community projects.
Today 75 % of the guides are trained and certified as professional safari guides according to the standards of the Kenya Professional Safari Guide Association (KPSGA) our goal is to reach 100 % by 2005.
